About Us
Bear Cottage is
located in Whakatane on the east side of the North Island, New
Zealand. 
I have been making bears for several years having learned many sewing skills from my toymaker mother, when I was in my teens. Four years ago my son and I started to make them from possum furs a friend gave us to try. It has taken from then to perfect the bears and the learning process was very challenging and somewhat frustration. The first ones were thrown away and we were tempted many times to return to the safety of mohair and synthetic fabrics.
But we persevered and we now can offer various bear designs as well as other accessories.
We have been making possum products now for many years with all positive comments to our work.
We hope you will like our possum designs.
We also now stock a range of possum merino wool items as well as selling a range of items through Ebay and Trade Me.
We are open to the public:
10am to 3pm Tuesday – Saturday
Sunday & Monday closed
Other times can be arranged
Groups and tour buses welcome and need to be booked.
No entrance charge.
Entrance at the back of the house.
