About Us
Bear Cottage was established in the early 2000s by mother and son crafters Pam and Rhys. More than 20 years down the track, they are still creating premium products together.
Their luxurious possum fur products are lovingly made in their workshop in Whakatane, New Zealand. Customers from all over the world are enjoying silky-soft, bespoke home decor and clothing accessories crafted by Bear Cottage.
The high-end online store also offers premium products from other well-known makers, including McDonald Textiles clothing and accessories and Gund and Paddington teddy bears.

Our possum fur is collected in the North Island of New Zealand by accredited hunters in areas approved by the Department of Conservation. Most of our fur comes from the rural central area of the North Island.
Possums are nocturnal marsupials, so their hides are not conditioned for the sun. Protect your possum products from sunlight and store them away from windows. To clean possum fur, gently wipe with a damp cloth and air dry out of direct sunlight. Do not wash or dry clean.
Possum fur and merino wool are considered hypoallergenic and are a great choice for those with sensitive skin, as they are unlikely to cause irritation or discomfort.

Our shipping prices are calculated by weight and vary depending on shipping location. National shipping within New Zealand ranges from NZD $5-$15. Delivery to our neighbours in Australia ranges from $15-$120, and for the rest of the world $25-$300 depending on parcel weight. Shipping is calculated at checkout.
